Sunflower Construction Services wasn't built in a boardroom. It was built in the dirt, on the pavement, and on job sites across Northeast Kansas.
When Jeff Engroff purchased Sunflower Paving in 2007 (the company was started in 1982), the goal was simple: do the job right, on time, and stand behind the work. As the company’s reputation grew, so did the realization that project managers, developers, and local businesses were exhausted by managing unreliable subcontractors and vendors. They needed partners they didn't have to micromanage.
Expanding the Standard
To solve this, we expanded. We brought together the region's best to form a powerhouse network. We integrated RD Johnson Excavating's decades of earthwork experience dating back to the 1970s. We built sustainable recycling and landscaping material operations. We acquired Capital City Pallet to support local warehouses , and we brought our heavy civil construction discipline into the commercial painting industry.
Today, while each of our six companies operates with deep, specialized industry knowledge, they all share that original 1982 standard. You get absolute accountability, clear communication, and a refusal to cut corners.
